Tag 3 begann am für mich mit Abstand "schlimmsten" Campingplatz der Tour in Val Veny.
Am Vorabend hatte ich noch überlegt, den Bus nach Courmayeur zu nehmen und den ersten, sehr steilen Anstieg zu umgehen. Da ich aber schon früh wach war, entschied ich mich doch dafür, die Etappe zu Fuß zu laufen.
In Courmayeur folgte nach einem kurzen Einkauf direkt der nächste Anstrengungsakt: rund 1.000 Höhenmeter Aufstieg zum Refugio Giorgio Bertone. Auch heute waren wieder unzählige Wanderer unterwegs. Aber uns alle verband das gleiche Ziel: irgendwie den steilen Anstieg zu bewältigen.
Hinter dem Refugio begann die Balcony Section. Der Blick auf das Mont-Blanc-Massiv war einfach traumhaft. Zusammen mit dem strahlenden Sonnenschein und deutlich weniger Menschen auf dem Trail war dieser Abschnitt eines meiner Highlights auf der Tour du Mont Blanc.
Nach knapp 30 Kilometern erreichte ich das Refugio Elena. Eigentlich hatte ich auf einen Platz zum Wildcampen gehofft, doch das war hier in Italien nicht erlaubt.
Stattdessen durfte ich mein Zelt für 15 € auf dem Vordach bzw. der Veranda des Refugios aufstellen. Nicht gerade der schönste Spot, aber für mich nach diesem langen Tag mehr als ausreichend.

Day 3 started at what was, by far, the "worst" campground of the entire tour in Val Veny.
The evening before, I had considered taking the bus to Courmayeur to skip the first very steep climb. But since I woke up early, I decided to hike the entire stage instead.
After a quick stop at the supermarket in Courmayeur, the next challenge began: around 1,000 meters of climbing up to Refugio Giorgio Bertone. Once again, there were countless hikers on the trail. But we all shared the same goal: somehow making it to the top.
Behind the refuge, the Balcony Section began. The views of the Mont Blanc massif were simply stunning. Combined with the sunshine and far fewer people on the trail, this became one of my highlights of the Tour du Mont Blanc.
After just under 30 kilometers, I reached Refugio Elena. I had hoped to find a place for wild camping, but that isn't allowed in Italy.
Instead, I was allowed to pitch my tent on the porch/veranda of the refuge for €15. Not exactly the nicest spot, but after such a long day, it was more than good enough for me.
